Erik Kvale – Three million years of geologic calamity in the Shell Valley
Erik Kvale joined Devon Energy Corporation in Oklahoma City in 2006, serving as Principal Geologist for 14 years. During his tenure he analyzed oil/gas deposits across the Midwest and southwest U.S. Prior to Devon, Erik worked for the Indiana Geological Survey at Indiana University for 19 years as a research scientist.
Over the past 30 plus years, Erik has maintained an active research interest in the Bighorn Basin of northern Wyoming, and has published a number of papers on his investigations there. In the course of his work, he discovered and named the Red Gulch Dinosaur Tracksite (RGDT), near Shell, Wyoming in 1997. This is one of the most extensive dinosaur tracksites in North America and one of the rare remains of Middle Jurassic dinosaurs in Wyoming.
Erik is the President of the Big Horn Basin Dinosaur and Geoscience Museum (BHBDGM) board of directors. The BHBDGM is actively working with the Town of Greybull to create a dinosaur museum in Greybull that will focus on the amazing dinosaur and marine reptile remains that have been found in Jurassic of Big Horn County.
